Favourite Global Memory:

My favourite Global memory would be both the day sections 1-6 of our ISUs were due (March 6th) and also the last day before March break, which although we didn’t know at the time, also happened to be the last day of school for us. Both days were super chaotic and everyone was acting a bit insane, which in a way helped us all understand one another and become closer. I also really enjoyed the time I got to spend with my German partner, Marie while she was visiting!

Unexpected Lessons Learned from Global:

I learned a lot about myself and my own academic strengths, weaknesses, and goals. Also, the importance of stepping outside of your comfort zone and being more “out there”. You’re given a ton of different opportunities in Global on a daily basis, so I learned that by putting yourself out there more often, it will typically lead to a greater outcome.

What Does Global Mean to You?

Global means a group of individuals who are extremely goal-oriented, have insane work ethic and a weird yet hilarious sense of humour. It’s interesting to see the difference in atmosphere between walking into class on the first day of second semester, and leaving on the last day of school. After being with the same 27 people everyday, you become comfortable with each other and it feels like you’re a part of a new family. Pretty cool if ya ask me :)

Why did you Apply to Global?

I first heard about Global through Torlée’s grade 9 geography class and was instantly intrigued. Like most people, I love travelling, and was also looking forward to meeting new people and stepping out of my comfort zone. I also think that a program like Global is always a good change of scenery since it’s a different system compared to “normal” school.

Describe Global in 3 Words:

Insightful, Family, Growth

What did you enjoy most about online school?

Similar to Global, with online school you have a lot of freedom and flexibility. I liked that I was able to create my own schedule that fit my plans on different specific days. It was also interesting to see how the teachers would change up projects to fit the online school system.

The Economic and Ecological Impacts of Wildfires

The issue of wildfires has grown rapidly within the past couple of years. Despite the efforts to combat them, the size, intensity, and occurrence of such fires has increased due to the rise of global warming, human-made causes, and natural phenomenons. For millions of years, they have burned in forests, grasslands, savannas, and other ecosystems. These fires not only burn trees and emit smoke, they leave behind long-lasting changes on the ground, also affecting the climate over time. My paper focuses on the impact that wildfires have had and are continuing to have on our world. It will also bring to attention who is affected the most and possible solutions to the issue. If this rapid increase continues to grow, the possibility of positive change in the future will no longer remain an option.
