Politics of Self

Out of the Box Presentation

The Politics of Self assignment is one of the first tasks that Globalites do. It allows them to explore who they are and what is at the core of their existence. Politics of Self consists of two parts; a personal essay and the Out of The Box Presentation. Both contribute to the start of a journey for Global students. For the Politics of Self Paper, everyone has to choose 5-7 “things” they value. Then they provide definitions and further explanation. Globalites are asked to explain the values they chose and where they could have originated from. They also have to identify something “missing” and how their values relate to their world view. During the last portion of the assignment, the global students have to highlight their views on ‘the spiritual’ in life.’ The Out of The Box presentation gives the class a chance to get to know each other, through 5 minute presentations that are engaging and fun to watch. Students have the opportunity to share what they wrote in their paper by using props creatively to help symbolize who they are. This assignment is a great way to start learning about who your fellow Globalites are.
