TRAVEL
Our Unfortunate Reality
As a Global class and family, we all had different Global Perspectives experiences than previous classes and future ones. We were supposed to travel to Cuba with our humanitarian aid and personally give it to the community in April. We were also supposed to travel to Zweibrücken, Germany in May and reunite with our German matches, not only that but our best friends. Yet we acknowledge that this could not happen due to global circumstances with the COVID-19 outbreak becoming a pandemic, and travel, unfortunately, was not an option. During the weeks leading up to the students getting a final answer in mid-March to the questions we were all wondering, there was a lot of stress and worry for what we would hear.

When the coronavirus news was unraveling there was still a sense of hope that we could make those trips, but as the situation got more serious and widespread, we knew it wasn’t going to happen. Yes, we were very disappointed and upset, some even emotional, and our teachers told us that we had the right to be, but eventually, we had to accept that we had to do our part in minimizing the spread and be responsible. We arrived at this place of acceptance and realization at different times, but we all did as a class and managed to use our resourcefulness to carry on the program virtually. Our Global experience was very altered, but we made it work because we had to be responsible Global citizens in the time of a public health crisis.
