As technology continues to advance and media becomes more incorporated into our everyday lives, discourse surrounding politics, religion, culture, and society is greatly influenced. These influences and impacts must be examined, analyzed and understood by the average citizen in order to ensure that the general public does not become apathetic, and cannot be easily manipulated by likes, comments and colour TV. This paper closely examines the history of modern media, its integration into society, and the control it continues to exercise over communities all across the globe; from the quick and easy spread of propaganda to rigged elections and corrupt leaders, media and entertainment are being molded into a weapon that has the potential to brainwash individuality into obsolescence.
