Indigenous Rights

Anushka Aujla-Letts

For decades Indigenous peoples around the world have been discriminated against. This discrimination is displayed in many forms and places. There is continuous discrimination experienced by Indigenous communities worldwide. Indigenous peoples’ human rights are continuously being violated and abused in a number of ways. Systemic racism is a main problem with discrimination of Indigenous peoples. Since racism is ingrained in our society it is something Indigenous people likely have to deal with on a daily basis. This is a very prominent and ongoing issue that needs to continue to be seriously addressed and improved. Despite efforts to improve the treatment of Indigenous peoples and to increase recognition, little progress has been made. The marginalization of Indigenous peoples results in them being over represented among the poorest, the illiterate, and the destitute in the world. In my paper I focus on this issue within Canada and countries around the world. As well, I describe the efforts that are being made by leaders and organizations towards reconciliation.
