Child Labor

Olivia Daley

As Canandian’s we buy so much, but have you ever considered where your items come from, and more importantly who has manufactured them? This ISU examines child labor and how it is not only existant in developing nations but first world countries as well. Case studies on Nike, Walmart, and H&M are able to shed light on how the first world is a large contributor to the exploitation of children in industries and businesses. Although there are laws and conventions set in place to protect the children, there is still a lack of enforcement which allows child labor to go undetected in supply chains. In this paper I discuss the various causes of child labor such as poverty and lack of edcuation. I also go into depth on the different types of child labor and harmful effects that they cause. This is a complex issue that needs to be addressed; children are the future of the world and they need to be protected.
