Favourite Global Memory:

The trip to Stratford in September. I always wanted to attend the Stratford festival and this was the first time I was able, but I’d say the real highlight of the trip was exploring the shops with my classmates and our exchange partners. We went into a really cute restaurant and found a tiny thrift shop together and I really felt I got closer with both my Canadian and German friends that day.

Unexpected Lessons Learned from Global:

Stepping out of your comfort zone usually yields positive results. And, put yourself out there as soon as you can because you don’t know when you won’t be able to anymore.

What Does Global Mean to You?

The Global classroom was a place in which I could unashamedly ask questions about things I didn’t know, and I was presented with unique and enjoyable learning opportunities and experiences. For me, Global means excitement.

Why did you Apply to Global?

I was always interested in what Global Perspectives had to offer, but what really pushed me to apply was one of my favourite teachers recommending it for me. Also, my Grade 12 friends who did it in 2019 couldn’t stop talking about it.

Describe Global in 3 Words:

Fun, interesting, lighthearted

What did you enjoy most about online school?

Online school really gave me the opportunity to learn and think in ways I never had before. I think it was a good lesson in self discipline and taught me to adapt to new and unfamiliar circumstances. I thought the teachers also did a really great job adapting our curriculum; we got online guest speakers and were even able to do our debates (almost) as normal.

The profound impact of technology on Society:

How increased exposure to entertainment and media are shaping our world

As technology continues to advance and media becomes more incorporated into our everyday lives, discourse surrounding politics, religion, culture, and society is greatly influenced. These influences and impacts must be examined, analyzed and understood by the average citizen in order to ensure that the general public does not become apathetic, and cannot be easily manipulated by likes, comments and colour TV. This paper closely examines the history of modern media, its integration into society, and the control it continues to exercise over communities all across the globe; from the quick and easy spread of propaganda to rigged elections and corrupt leaders, media and entertainment are being molded into a weapon that has the potential to brainwash individuality into obsolescence.
