Favourite Global Memory:

My favourite memory from our global journey was the trip to Niagara Falls with our Germans. I hung out with Jonas and Laya for the day. The trip was towards the end of the German’s stay in Canada which was when I finally realized that all the fun we had with our Germans was coming to an end.

Unexpected Lessons Learned from Global:

Along with the amazing memories Global presents it’s students, the program also offers valuable life lessons. For example, to take some time for yourself. The program grants you the opportunity to learn more about who you are. Whether it be through the opinions you form over certain world issues, or how you manage your work and time. That being said, I learned the program can be straining on your mental health at times. By using the support from friends and family is very helpful in getting through the program, which is why it is not the best idea to completely abandon everything to dedicate your semester to assignments and homework.

What Does Global Mean to You?

To me Global means opportunity. Global offers students the chance to educate yourself on topics and ideas not explored in the general curriculum. Also, it presents the chance to participate in once in a lifetime moments whether it be delivering humanitarian aide to Cuba, converting an entire classroom into a country, or participating in online debates. The program also provides students with the opportunity to increase their view on the world by looking at society through different perspectives further broadening their knowledge. Finally, Global offers students a newfound family. It forms strong bonds between people whether it be through group members in projects or just by talking with the person sitting across from you in class.

Why did you Apply to Global?

Despite having family that participated in the program, I applied to Global because of my interest in humanities and systemic problems surrounding our world. Also I knew how the program offers opportunities to increase your perspective on the world through studies and travels such as the exchange and humanitarian aide for Cuba.

Describe Global in 3 Words:

Unique, Enlightening, Memorable

What did you enjoy most about online school?

Despite me disliking majority of online school, I liked how we could make our own schedule. It forced us to be responsible with our time management and allowed me to sleep in longer.

How Nuclear Weapons during, and after the Cold War, have an impact on the Balance of Power

Nuclear weapons remain an interesting topic in today’s society. Despite being first developed during World War II, the issue of countries possessing a weapon of such destruction is a problem society still faces today. During and after the Cold War you can see a race between multiple countries building nuclear weapons to preserve a balance of power. This balance of power theory can be defined in a variety of ways, as there is no one definition accepted by all, however all are premised around the idea of countries acting to maintain the equilibrium of power within the system. In recent years, countries have begun to develop nuclear weapons to deal with the current unbalance of power in society. Countries such as North Korea, Pakistan, and China developed their nuclear arsenal to compete with other nations such as the United States, the United Kingdom, and India. My report records the history of nuclear weapons in society, exposes the unfair advantages developed countries have by possessing weapons of such destruction, the dangers of countries owning such weapons, and possible solutions to deal with the current state of society regarding the dangers of nuclear weapons.
