Favourite Global Memory:
Going on adventures with my German exchange student along with some classmates, creating a strong bond and showing Laya around where I live. Highlights were especially, walking around Toronto and Wonderland, and penny boarding at Friday Harbour, and having sleepovers with friends.
Unexpected Lessons Learned from Global:
Don’t be afraid to do things out of your comfort zone, express yourself and your opinions.
What Does Global Mean to You?
Global means family, having class with the same people all day, you become close and comfortable with each other and I assume we would have become even closer if we went on our trips and spent the rest of the year together. Global also means freedom, it is a very different learning situation in Global, you have freedom to do certain things because everyone is trusted, for example needing to leave school for Little Big Pitch related things, with this freedom you learn to be responsible.
Why did you Apply to Global?
I applied because I thought the Global Perspectives program would be a great and unique learning experience perfect for me. I was very interested in the different style of learning and to be in a class made up of the same students with similar academic interests. I was also excited about the travelling component and being able to experience different cultures.
Describe Global in 3 Words:
Exciting, stressful, unique
What did you enjoy most about online school?
I honestly do not enjoy online school, but it was convenient to not have to wake up at 6am to go get the bus and to have balance and make time for family.

Indigenous Rights
For decades Indigenous peoples around the world have been discriminated against. This discrimination is displayed in many forms and places. There is continuous discrimination experienced by Indigenous communities worldwide. Indigenous peoples’ human rights are continuously being violated and abused in a number of ways. Systemic racism is a main problem with discrimination of indigenous peoples. Since racism is ingrained in our society it is something indigenous people likely have to deal with on a daily basis. This is a very prominent and ongoing issue that needs to continue to be seriously addressed and improved. Despite efforts to improve the treatment of indigenous peoples and to increase recognition, little progress has been made. The marginalization of indigenous peoples results in them being over represented among the poorest, the illiterate, and the destitute in the world. In my paper I focus on this issue within Canada and countries around the world. As well, I describe the efforts that are being made by leaders and organizations towards reconciliation.
