Favourite Global Memory:

The trip to Niagara Falls with the German students. Marlene and I almost missed the bus because we got stuck on the Sky Wheel.

Unexpected Lessons Learned from Global:

I learned how to adapt to situations and make the best of them. Although our Global in-class experience got cut a bit short, the teachers and students still made the program a positive experience.

What Does Global Mean to You?

To me global means friendship. Not only was I able to build friendships with people from another country but I was also able to become closer with my school peers.

Why did you Apply to Global?

I was looking forward to the courses that the program included. Before global I did not know what I wanted to do in the future. With the variety of courses I hoped that global would help give me an idea on what I wanted to pursue after high school.

Describe Global in 3 Words:

Unforgettable, Eye-opening, Exciting

What did you enjoy most about online school?

I liked that I could fit school into my routine and create my own schedule. I also had more time to spend with my family.

Child Labor

As Canadian’s we buy so much, but have you ever considered where your items come from, and more importantly who has manufactured them? This ISU examines child labor and how it is not only existent in developing nations but first world countries as well. Case studies on Nike, Walmart, and H&M are able to shed light on how the first world is a large contributor to the exploitation of children in industries and businesses. Although there are laws and conventions set in place to protect the children, there is still a lack of enforcement which allows child labor to go undetected in supply chains. In this paper I discuss the various causes of child labor such as poverty and lack of education. I also go into depth on the different types of child labor and harmful effects that they cause. This is a complex issue that needs to be addressed; children are the future of the world and they need to be protected.
