Favourite Global Memory:

The trip to Algonquin with our Germans. I hung out with Nicole and Jonas for most of the day and we had some good times. We laughed super hard and all got much closer. The views were gorgeous, unlike anything I could have imagined. Finally, I had some really nice, long, conversations with Nicole and I think that day was a big one in terms of building our relationship.

Unexpected Lessons Learned from Global:

Take risks. It’s worth it. You’ll learn things about yourself, other people, and the world that you never would have if you hadn’t popped your bubble.

What Does Global Mean to You?

A group of people that opened my mind, challenged me academically, and gave me new friends that I hope to keep connections with for a long time.

Why did you Apply to Global?

When I first heard about Global I was very against applying, exchange programs were always terrifying to me. But when I brought the brochure home to my parents, my dad made it very clear that there was no way I wasn’t going to take advantage of this opportunity. He knows that I am often hesitant to step out of my comfort zone and I need that little push from someone on the outside to get me to do things that scare me. Needless to say, I am so incredibly thankful for that push because Global gave me so many things I am so grateful for.

Describe Global in 3 Words:

Extraordinary, Growth, Unforgettable

What did you enjoy most about online school?

Being able to set my own schedule. Waking up at 8:45 everyday is a heck of a lot nicer than 6:00 and did great things as far as brain function goes. I was able to set up shop in my room, dedicate hours to one project and work with very few distractions. I genuinely feel as though the work I produced at home was of better quality than what I can usually produce at school because I was able to dedicate as much time in the day to an assignment as I needed and my room really lets the creative juices flow.

The Rise of Antisemitism in the Last Decade

Antisemitism is a plague that has a place in every era of modern history. Through the Crusades, the Reformation, the Holocaust and countless other examples, it is clear to see how Jewish people have been subject to discrimination, persecution, exile and torture for millennia. Many believe that in the decades since the Holocaust, there has been significant progress in the elimination of Antisemitism around the world, however this is not the case. Whether it be due to religious beliefs, political differences, white supremacy or any other various reasons, antisemitism continues to rise in Europe, the Middle East, North America and around the world. This essay explores a history of antisemitism, causes and effects of antisemitism today and the ways those who wish to make a difference are attempting to do so. It is important to educate ourselves on these difficult topics to prevent more of the inhumane treatment Jewish people have had to face for thousands of years.
